NETWORK ORANGE

Flexible networks are a phenomenon of the last decade: networks consisting of a variety of people, who gather to work or live together for a short time and then drift apart again. The architects a-lab set about to create an office building which is flexible but with a unifying architectural identity on the former airport Fornebu, Oslo, for exactly this kind of user: IT people constantly in the process of changing and networking. The architects designed a network of independent structures linked by a semi-sunken base. The different uses and construction principles remain perceptible as does the significance of every individual building within the whole. The office accommodation is located in the four office wings, whose steel supporting construction is set in front of the façade like a net. The interior space can be divided into units that are variably separable, each with a surface of 3.750 m², spread over five storeys. Glass and anthracite coloured panels feature on the façade of the four office buildings and contrast with the four slender, windowless staircase towers between the tracts, which are completely clad in light grey stone. Light and dark alternate to form an organised row. The heart of the complex lies in its centre, an amorphous building with numerous rooms. It is the hub of the complex and its impact stems from its exterior mandarin orange ALUCOBOND® panels. A Network Orange, tells us about working together in the future.
