Merging exterior and interior

Life goes on both indoors and outdoors here. The clients were very keen to create an unbroken spatial flow by interweaving the indoor living space with adjoining outdoor areas. So, their idea has shaped the basic conceptual design for this exclusive home in central Switzerland. The striking house is located on the green periphery of a residential area, and glass balustrades and frameless window systems ensure a clear view of the sweeping landscape. But there is more to this building than just a striking, unobstructed panorama. The garden with its pool, several balconies and the generously proportioned roof terrace on the upper floor increase the living space, and the interior design concept runs right through to the property’s boundary. To avoid interrupting this spatial continuum, a consciously seamless design was applied for the transition between internal and external spaces. Even the joint pattern in the interior flooring continues to the exterior, and automatic blinds or shutters for sun protection have been omitted. Instead of conventional shading systems, a balcony area above the bedrooms and guest rooms serves as permanent sun protection in summer.

Broad bands of ALUCOBOND^® are also used as a connecting features by Architect Mario L. Vonplon. These bands merge seamlessly with the balcony elements on the exterior façade, emphasising the building’s horizontal lines. In the interior, the same band continues along the elegantly coiled spiral staircase. This sculptural staircase comprising wood, metal and glass is literally the very heart of the house and turns the entrance hall into a distinctive feature. Not only the design is impressive, the building’s contrasting use of materials and textures is equally appealing. Split Dietfurt limestone was chosen for the façade alongside sections made of opaque mineral rendered panels. The juxtaposition of the rugged, sand-coloured natural stone with the sheen of ALUCOBOND^® façade bands in bronze metallic creates a real contrast. This is a unique residential building which welcomes you to inviting living spaces, not only in its interior.
