OLD AND NEW- AN ATMOSPHERICAL METAMORPHOSIS

On a hill with a picturesque view of the town of Heilbronn and the vineyard landscape, the reconstruction of the architectural office of Biehler Weith Associated articulates a changeable architectural possibility form. The static impression of the old cubic edifice built in 1929 is combined with an extending, dynamic spatial conception converting it to contemporary equivalence of livable demands. Subsequent to the architects‘ process of sensitive decision-making, the new construction creates an inconstant view, inside and out, continuously undergoing a process of change. The spatial interference from the external form to the internal structure conveys a sentimental character. This ambiguity continues in the materiality. The structure of the old brick-wall building was supplemented by an external thermal insulation and refined with an exterior plaster. By contrast, the new building is made entirely of concrete, which - as a continuous strip in a dynamic course - attaches to, and extends over the structure of the old building. In order to accentuate the character of the new building, ALUCOBOND® was chosen for the outer facing. The seam structure of the aluminum emphasizes the dynamic edges of the new structure. The different materials strengthen the vocabulary of the Old and the New, and combine both in its noble ambient impression.
