After failing to find peace and quiet working from home, Melbourne-based designer Jason Fremder started working in his car. That experience prompted him to create a small, optimized space for work and recreation that would make it easier for him to juggle his personal and professional life. Together with his father-in-law and architect Selwyn Blackstone, he created the Harwyn pod, a tiny prefabricated workspace.
Inspired by the mechanical strength and high protection levels found in European luxury car design, the ‘Harwyn pod’ is a permanent structure that was born out of the desire to create a space that would adapt to the needs of the user.

Despite being both luxurious and opulent, the architecturally designed spaces can be located in a garden without requiring council approval.
Fabricated in Melbourne, ‘Harwyn pods’ are self-supporting structures with external ALUCOBOND® cladding. The pods maintain their shape and are not affected by transport and delivery to different locations. They can be placed everywhere, as they are suitable foruse on grass or earth surfaces. The pod design makes them versatile enough for a wide range of uses: art studios, recreation spaces
or just a quiet, distraction-free place to study. The interior is fitted out with climate conrole systems, LED lighting and a sound system and, just like the exterior, the inner cladding is ALUCOBOND®.
The pod provides the user with a relaxing, private retreat, which blends in with nature.

The architectural and design concept already earned different awards, such as:
- Good Design Awards – category Best in Architectural Design – Commercial and
Residential Architecture
- Golden A’ Design Award in the category of Architecture, Building and Structure Design
