Rooms with a view

Perched on a relatively steep, north-facingslope, the home’s main objective was tomake the most of the magnificent views fromnorth to east. The project was a collaborationbetween Sheppard & Dwyer Architects,Bliink Interiors, and Eco Edge Homes.For a modern and clean look, the minimalistexterior palette includes stone, glass, metaland timber. The strong first impression withcurved eaves and a butterfly roofline is madeby the design along the contours of the landand taking from the bushland surroundings. The main roof was inspired by the shape ofa gum leaf and is made of ALUCOBOND^®Champagne metallic.Anchoring the home into the hill and contributingto its solid structure, the exteriorof the south half of the house with its serviceareas, cinema room and the garage isfinished in natural stone. On the north side, the combination of glass,steel and a cantilevered deck creates a feelingof lightness, as if the home is floatingabove the vineyard. All the main living areasand bedrooms face north and overlook themajor views. There was a desire to be ableto look up and out, and the home certaintlyfits the brief with views taking in the stunninglandscape that stretches towards Kinglake National Park and the Yarra Valley.
