ROUGH & FLUSH

In southern Germany, a family of four achieved their dream of loft living in large, light-filled
rooms surrounded by minimalistic architecture. The passive house with wooden sub construction, was built without a cellar, using fair-faced concrete elements and load-bearing steel structures.

The residential building comprises two flatroofed cubes clad in greying larch which are set next to each other. The flush, black ALUCOBOND® panels accentuate the façade. In addition, the same colour has been chosen for the windowsills and soffits as well as the external venetian blinds. The passive house is oriented to the south with floor to ceiling glass frontage opening onto the garden. The north façade is completely closed.

Supporting structures made from prefabricated timber frame components, the fair-faced concrete foundation slab with component activation and steel structures were dealt with by craftsmen, but the majority of both external and internal the building work was carried out by the owner. The owner, a skilled carpenter and joiner assembled and mounted the façade cladding with exacting accuracy.
Coordinating materials, such as concrete, glass, black steel columns and steel beams underline the purist loft flair of the house and its double garage.
The garden lounge is concealed behind two sliding shutters. In the garden, a clearly structured outdoor space skillfully split into patio and green areas. The restrained selection of materials such as basalt gravel, concrete in combination with green continues the idea of minimalism.
