A new face for Haga Hospital

The Haga Hospital in The Hague is one of the largest general hospitals in the Netherlands. This project comprises ‘design, build & maintain’ aspects of a number of departments, including the new Juliana Children’s Hospital/Mother and Child Centre, the OR complex and AOHD (anaesthesiology, oncology, haematology, day treatment), and the second phase of the renovation of the existing hospital.
Designed by MVSA, the new building brings together various departments in a new location. The structural volume is divided into three areas by two green atriums each crossed by a bridge zone, which works as a meeting place and arrival area and contains the welcome desks. The result is a continuous whole characterised by clear routing, short walking distances and lots of daylight. This effect is enhanced by the shifting colours, smooth shapes and curved lines of the exterior. We developed the design in compliance with the Planetree care concept, which focuses on easy orientation, hospitality, light, and a genuine sense of the comforts of home.
