Hotel L'EssenCiel, France

The unique Hotel L'EssenCiel with its bold architecture in the shape of a tree is part of the Domaine du Château des Pères in France. The hotel was designed by Jean-Paul Legendre and Unité Architecture Agency. The project was inspired by the structure of a supporting tree with floating bubbles hanging from its branches. These bubbles were realized with BEMO-MONRO® standing seam aluminium sheets.

Surrounded by 31 hectares of wooded parkland, guests can stay in the floating aluminium cocoons and enjoy 4* service. The 42 domes of the hotel are connected to the 28m high tower and each one received an aluminium shell. Due to the cocoons' small area of 26m², the geometry of the individual profiles is very extreme. The BEMO-MONRO® standing seam profiles were realized with very small convex radii of less than 2,000mm - both horizontally and vertically in one track.

For this purpose, the coil-coated aluminium coils are first cut to fit exactly, then the sheets are rounded into the shape required for the building. The standing seam profiles were coated in the colour AluNatur Elox Medium Champagne TL. A total area of around 3,280m² was clad with standing seam sheets.

In order to accommodate the curved shape of the hotel's cocoons, the BEMO-MONRO® standing seam sheets were installed on a three-dimensionally adjustable BEMO-DOME substructure. This can be used flexibly and impresses with its good load-bearing capacity, perfect tolerance compensation and simple on-site installation.

The highest safety standards, especially with regard to fire protection, had priority in the design of this extraordinary hotel. The planning phase lasted three years in order to meet all requirements for seismic standards, wind resistance, fire resistance and sound insulation.
