Asics EMEA HQ

The world-renowned sports and lifestyle brand ASICS has opened its new EMEA headquarters in Hoofddorp. In 2016, Powerhouse Company   , in collaboration with  RED Company,  won the competition to design the 11,600m² state-of-the-art headquarters. The design of the new headquarters reflects the ASICS philosophy of "a Sound Mind in a Sound Body" and focuses on the physical and mental well-being of its employees. By strongly integrating the brand identity into the building's design, it is more than just a workplace. It is a destination where national and international employees, customers, and visitors celebrate the ASICS heritage and shape its future. 

Modern Elegance: 
The building is characterized by its elegance and clarity. The overhangs emphasize the strong horizontal line of the façade while simultaneously protecting the work floors from direct sunlight. The building's entrance is marked by a deep recess in the main façade and a prominent blue glass wall bearing the ASICS logo. The symmetrical composition of the horizontal overhangs on each floor and the central position of the entrance are interrupted by a void on one side and a recess with a green terrace on the other.

Connecting Atrium:
Following the  palazzo tradition, the atrium forms both the symbolic and physical core of the building. The atrium expands the function of a conventional office lobby by combining the informal quality of a meeting space with the grandeur of an exhibition space. The building-high space, which is abundantly flooded with natural light thanks to the glass roof, is surrounded on four sides by the balconies of the spacious, column-free work floors of approximately 2,800 m² per floor. A playful staircase system connects the different levels and breaks the horizontal continuity of the floors. The prominent positioning of the stairs and the transparency of the building create a dynamic that stimulates interaction among employees and invites them to move around. 

ASICS World

At the heart of the atrium lies "ASICS World," a four-level, three-dimensional showcase showcasing all ASICS brands. It features a playful composition of stacked blocks that immediately catches the eye, making it the primary visual reference for the ASICS brand. It also serves as a multifunctional space suitable for diverse, informal activities and functions as a meeting place, design center, and platform for its brands. On the ground floor, surrounding "ASICS World," the building offers a range of functions, including a restaurant, Power Health Bar, the ASICS fitness center, and an ASICS store.

Future-proof and flexible design.
Powerhouse Company's future-proof design features an efficient and flexible layout that supports diverse work formats, focused on innovation and collaboration, through a wide variety of workspaces. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide abundant natural light and offer panoramic views of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. The fully glazed façade, combined with the streamlined overhangs, creates an elegant silhouette. On each floor, recesses in the façade create dedicated outdoor spaces, creating a fluid interplay between indoors and outdoors.

Wellbeing and Sustainability
In line with ASICS' philosophy of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body," the highest quality standards for health and sustainability have been observed. This has resulted in a building with WELL Gold and LEED Gold certifications. The building's design takes the environment into account by conserving energy and water and reducing CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the design ensures employee well-being by creating a healthy indoor climate and a comfortable working environment. The prominent positioning of the stairs in the atrium will inspire building users to take the stairs instead of the elevators.

The ASICS EMEA headquarters will be part of one of the most sustainable office parks in the Netherlands, Beukenhorst-Zuid. The immediate surroundings feature green spaces, walkways, and gardens. The campus provides a strategic connection to the new headquarters of leading food company Danone. To optimize the sustainability and well-being components of the headquarters, the team collaborated with technology company bGrid to design a smart building with a smart grid system that measures temperature, CO2, and light. Employees can manage local climate and lighting via an app. The system also supports app services such as Find my Colleague, Room Booking, and Workplace Finding.
