Europa-Park Stadion Freiburg

According to plans by HPP Architekten, the Europa-Park Stadium has been built as the new home ground of SC Freiburg. With its consistent and timeless elegance, the structure blends into the gentle topography at Wolfswinkel in the west of Freiburg. The diagonal tie rods on the outside give the stadium its unmistakable character. In addition to the clear architectural language, the common experience for the up to 34,700 fans in a "stadium for all" was the focus from the very beginning. The architecture focuses on the essentials: clear structure, functionality and economy, but above all experience with a high degree of openness and transparency. The stadium thus combines a wide range of sports and non-sports event areas under one roof. The business, conference and event areas are designed to operate self-sufficiently during and outside soccer matches. To address the issue of sustainability in a special way, the roof was equipped with around 15,000 m² of photovoltaic panels - making it one of the largest photovoltaic systems on a stadium in the world.
