The project started in 2007 with a competition for the masterplan. BEAR-iD won that competition together with DHV Engineering in Shanghai. Sustainable principles were used to develop the site.?The basic idea of the project is to provide the possibility of future extension for the sustainable factories. The newly-developed buildings reflect the entreprise philosophy of Yunnan Baiyao as a modern enterprise based on tradition.

The site has a large landscape area that surrounds the headquarter office building and the canteen building. From the main entrance a winding road shows the visitor the beauty of nature before entering the main building.

The Yunnan Baiyao Headquarter building is designed as a strong image on the sloped site. Fengshui was part of the design principles. The building is seperated by two atriums, which not only makes functional areas clear but also provides natural daylight and fresh air to the interior. ?The ramp space on the west side is designed as the reflection to the sloped site. This circulation and exhibition space makes an organic connection between outside open space and inside atriums. The lower three levels are built in the slope and this area has all functional spaces like mechanical rooms and car parking.

The natural stone facade reflects the colors of the Stone forest in Kunming and the deep windows make the building look more powerfull.

The canteen building on the west side of the headquarter building is built in the landscape park. It stands with the feet in the water pond. The roof is covered with a green roof to let the building disappear in the landscape as seen from the headquarter building. From the water side the building with it light coloured facade becomes more part of the sky.

The canteen first floor is very close to the water and has a large outside terrace to get even closer to the water. The interior of the canteen reflects the openess, sunlight and fresh air from the surrounding nature. The second floor has the large views to the nature around the site.
