Architect

Looking for an architect. Four days a week, seven months, The Hague.
I run a small practice. We are working mainly on the transformation of a school, and of a farm into a residential community.
How we work
- Never more than two projects at a time. We seek flow and depth.
- I set the direction, authorship of the theme is not shared. Within this direction, the work is yours and your responsibility: models, details, proportions, etc.
- I appreciate your intuitive and honest reaction to design choices; the final decision is mine.
What I ask
- At least one year of experience after graduating; internships not counted.
- You have drawn independently on technical design: details and construction drawings. Show them in your portfolio.
- You can take a frame and work precisely inside it. You are not looking to co-author the concept right now.
- Good command of Rhino and SketchUp, and strong graphic skills in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. ArchiCAD is a plus.
- You have used physical models as part of designing.
What I offer
- Time for the architecture itself: proportion, material, construction, light.
- No overtime. Four days is four days, eight hours is eight hours. The intensity is in the work, not in the hours.
- Competitive salary, pension and terms per the CAO Architectenbureaus.
Practical
- 32 hours a week, Monday to Thursday.
- Start as soon as possible. Please mention when you are available.
- The studio is at the edge of the dunes in The Hague, 20 minutes by bike or bus from Central Station. This may change to a shared studio in the city later in the contract.
Applying
- Send your portfolio, a short CV, and the name and telephone number of one person you have worked under, whom I may call.
- This way of working suits some people and not others. In your email, tell me what you think you would find challenging about it.
- By email to: mail@maartenvankesteren.com, before the 21st of September. I will respond in the week of 22 September.
