STUDIO DOHO captures the vibrancy of Peru with its latest project, Colca. A renovated lane house block in the heart of Shanghai’s Former French Concession serves as the location for the 450 sqm Peruvian restaurant. Colca Canyon in Peru served as the naming inspiration of the restaurant and hints of patterns, textures and colors fuse Peruvian style into modern Shanghai.

The layout is based around an open dining terrace that serves as the heart of the restaurant. Preservation of the tall ceiling in the main space was a primary focus for the designers. A stucco wall was constructed running the length of the dining space to conceal MEP and provide an asymmetrical element, giving the space a more intimate feel.

The open dining space was designed with sliding partitions that can break up the space into intimate private dining rooms. Old wooden doors found at a local Shanghai lumber market were modified and reused to separate the main dining area and the special private dining area. The illuminated feature wall in the dining room is derived from the topographic lines of the Colca Canyon in Peru. All the elements together create an elegant and intimate atmosphere fitting the fusion concept of the restaurant.
