Meer groen in huis dankzij Moswand.eu, MDF en OSB

Greenery in indoor spaces has enormous positive effects, as Wageningen University & Research endorses. John Custers, with more than 35 years of experience in the green sector, can only confirm these findings. When he came into contact with moss ten years ago, an inspiring company was created that provides every interior with more greenery. That is also the mission of his companies Moswand.eu and MossFactory.

Impactful approach

Also in other studies, such as from Masaryk University, the positive impact of greenery in indoor spaces is endorsed. It promotes health and the overall indoor climate, among other things. However, maintaining these plants can be tricky. That is why Moswand.eu decided to attach different types of prepared moss to, among other things, MDF and OSB boards. Due to the preparation of the moss, there is no longer any maintenance involved in the greenery.

This solution forms the basis of Moswand.eu, the company Custers started about ten years ago. At first he used ecoboard to make the moss walls. “Sustainability is very important to us. However, the quality did not meet our expectations,” he explains. “Then I learned more about MEDITE SMARTPLY MDF and OSB boards through Houthandel Scheijmans.† We now use both plates for almost all our end products.”

Meeting specific requirements

The choices for MEDITE MDF and SMARTPLY MAX FR B fit in seamlessly with the high-quality products that Moswand.eu realizes. The three types of moss that are used in the different walls are durably prepared with fire-retardant products. As a result, the indoor moss maintains the correct stability and lifespan so that customers can continue to enjoy a greener interior.

“We were looking for an MDF board that would warp minimally when we fix the moss with glue. In addition, fire safety is very important. To expand into other markets, you must meet specific certifications. That is why, in collaboration with Houthandel Scheijmans, we have opted for MEDITE MDF and SMARTPLY MAX FR B,” says Custers.

Sustainable through and through

Completely in line with the green philosophy of the moss walls, sustainability remains a crucial aspect. For example, the subsidiary MossFactory was started, where Custers has the flat and bulb moss prepared in-house. This gives him full control over the quality and durability of the moss. “We don't use fossil fuels and we generate our own energy,” he says. “The plates have to be just as clean for us. Without formaldehyde, including an FSC quality mark and with a clear, sustainable origin.”

Both MEDITE SMARTPLY and Houthandel Scheijmans are proud of supporting Custers' mission. “Originally, we are mainly active in the construction sector. It is therefore very nice to see how John and his companies provide more and more spaces with the necessary greenery," says Marc Scheijmans of Houthandel Scheijmans.
