Just green wickerwork

The building was to be designed for the centralBuilding Plot C on the site of a formerdye-works. The folded, relief-like façade, theuse of powerful colours and large areas ofglazing emphasise this central function. Thefaçade grid is a wickerwork pattern of broadinterwoven bands of ALUCOBOND^® in differentshades of green. On the ground floorof the building branches of major retailersand a crèche establish a public character. Abamboo grove introduces life into the generouslydimensioned courtyard at first floorlevel and this strong landscape statementexudes a calm, rather exotic quality. Eightstoreys in the end buildings and the threestoreys in the long buildings are accessedfrom the courtyard. The apartments offer avariety of types, mostly for 1 and 2 personhouseholds. To ensure they enjoy plenty oflight the apartments on the 1st and 2^nd floors of the long side buildings have two-storeyliving rooms. The roof top apartments above,on the 3^rd floor, are accessed from a deckon the courtyard side. As the orientation ofthe apartments in the tall buildings presentsno difficulties, they are simple single-facingor corner typologies. Instead of a flat façade, the wickerwork patterncreates the individuality of the building.By simply adding the third dimension to theenvelope the special impact is reached.The project fits the architects’ philosophy: “We aim to produce architecture that ispowerful and personal, architecture with thecapability of developing its own character.As a result our projects may polarize thepublic, which is fine with us. One may love orhate our architecture, but one should neverbe left indifferent.”
