Talence, located to the south of the Bordeaux metropolis, houses a large part of the university campus of Bordeaux. The architectural firm Arsène-Henry and Triaud, in collaboration with Ragueneau & Roux and Moon Safari, have realized the new campus.
The layout of the program was conceived around a central axis, optimising the transversal relations between its different functional entities. The quality of teaching and the services provided to students are the objectives of the project. The amphitheatres are highlighted as knowledge platforms. The large overhang provides shelter to the ground floor and welcomes fluently the flow of pedestrians to the reception hall. The poles of raw concrete supporting the lecture hall, seem to be arranged in a random manner. They guide the visitors into the interior because of the inclination of the overhang.
“The white ALUCOBOND® cladding is evocating the image of unity and perfect balance”, explains architect Christine Bernos.
“The goal was then to create a unique identity on the large volume set and inscribe it in a sober colour so that it contrasts with the rest of the complex with its ‘pixelated’ facade. It was a question of creating a case that would contain knowledge.”
At the heart of the academic field, Kedge Business School wanted to assert itself as one of the European leaders in management training. This international positioning gave the project scope: more than a functional, innovative toolbox, it is an emblematic architecture, a strong symbol of the school of tomorrow. A building serving students of course, but above all - infrastructures open on the Campus, a tool of excellence at the international level.
