FAR is announcing an international open competition: FAR 8

We are hereby announcing the start of the competition FAR 8, an idea competition which accompanies the commencement of our exhibition program. FAR is encouraging architects and planners from China, Europe and the rest of the world to take part. The competition starts on August 3, 2005 and ends on October 14, 2005. All participating projects will be exhibited online, and the best projects will be shown at the opening exhibition of FAR, with the winner being invited to Shanghai for the opening event. The competition is simple: make a proposal for an urban or environment of the future with only one rule: the fl oor area ratio of the proposed design should be at least 8.

was founded in May 2005 as an intercultural platform for European and Asian architects, designers and related professionals. We create space for professional and cultural exchange and architectural representation.

FAR
continuously scouts for the latest trendy spaces in Shanghai’s rapidly transforming urban landscape in order to exhibit architecture in constant dialogue with the city.

was founded by a group of European architects in Shanghai who share strong ties to their home country architecture and the vision of creating a new cultural institution for Shanghai.

sees itself as a cultural institution. Our exhibitions are theme-oriented and designed to enrich China’s architectural culture and to trigger a process of cross-cultural discourse.
