SAIE Selection 09

BolognaFiere and Archi-Europe jointly organize a special contest "SAIE Selection 09" in order to select 24 projects and concepts (12 for young architects and 12 for students) presenting Low cost and Low energy sustainable housing.

These 24 projects and/or concepts will be presented in a special dedicated exhibition ‘Cuore Mostra Saie 2009’ in the framework of the SAIE International Building Exhibition
taking place in Bologna (Italy) from October 28 to October 31, 2009.

The 24 projects will be selected by an international panel chaired by architect Mario Cucinella (Mario Cucinella Architects).

The contest is open to Young architects and to Students in architecture.

The presented project or concept will have to respect following fundamental parameters:
a. The use of sustainable criteria (using well-known evaluating systems) concerning the design of the building, the choice of technologies, materials and costructing methods,

b. A special attention to energy efficiency criteria as well in terms of energy savings as in terms of energy contribution. The project introduced by the architects (not by students in architecture) will have to mention the energy performance of the building (European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive 2002/91/CE)

c. The building costs should not exceed the cost generally admitted - referred to each country - for social housing projects. This point only concerns projects introduced by the category Young architects and not students.

Entries can be presented in 4 categories, with reference to the main technology used for the project:
1. Metal & Glass

2. Brick

3. Wood

4. Concrete

Entries can concern new construction projects as well as renovation and refurbishment projects. The winning projects in each category will be invited in Bologna at the Saie exhibition to present their project in a special seminar chaired by Architect Cucinella.
