Meet your seat on the street

Why does one public square invite its visitors to sit down and relax, while another looks gloomy and desolate each and every day? Good design, even in the smallest detail, can make or break the quality of our public spaces. Have you got what it takes? Enter the VelopA Design Award, and who knows, your design might end up on the streets.

Participation
Participation is permitted only for individual students of recognized higher vocational and academic studies. Professional designers are excluded from participating. Students following a short design course or a crash course do not qualify for participation. Individuals directly or indirectly concerned with the competition and members of their families are also excluded from participating. The registration procedure runs from August 2008 through 17 December 2008.

Assignment/Design
Design a seating element for a modern and multifunctional city square. The production costs must not be higher then € 750 per element and the product must have an expected life span of more than 15 years. The design must relate to the theme ‘seating element’ and must be accompanied by a justification for your choice of design. In addition to this, each entry must also include a clear description of the production process. It must be possible to produce the design using mass production techniques.

Announcing the winners
The winning designs will be announced on 4 June 2009. The jury’s report will also be released and published on the website on this date. In this report the jury provides justifications for the choice of winning designs and honorable mentions. All participants will receive a copy of the jury’s report by e-mail.
