Thu Thiem Master Plan Competition

The International Design Competition for Thu Thiem New Urban Area: Central Plaza, Crescent Park, and Saigon River Pedestrian Bridge is an open, two-stage Competition for qualified professional architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, planning, and engineering firms or teams. The Competition encourages entries from joint ventures (between Vietnamese companies or between Vietnamese companies and foreign companies).

The first stage will be anonymous, open and unpaid. Six shortlisted firms will be selected and paid to continue (anonymously) with the second stage. A winner will be selected from the six shortlisted submissions. The winner will have the right to negotiate the Design Contract with the Competition Sponsor for development of the project. (If the winner is internationally based, they will be required to select a local consultant to be a subcontractor in a supporting role).

Objectives
• The Competition will elicit the most sustainable, creative, functional, and exciting ideas from domestic and international designers to enhance the development goals at Thu Thiem and to provide all of Ho Chi Minh City with a stunning, publicly accessible waterfront.

• The Competition will contribute significantly to the design and implementation of first-phase public infrastructure works at Thu Thiem, currently underway.

• The Competition will result in the selection of an outstanding and visionary proposal for the Central Plaza, Crescent Park, and Pedestrian Bridge for future implementation at Thu Thiem and will reflect a uniquely Vietnamese cultural identity as well as the representing the latest trends in sustainability, public space, landscape architecture, architecture, and engineering.

Awards + Prizes
Six shortlisted firms will be paid in the amount of USD$20,000 each to continue with Stage 2 deliverables. At the conclusion of the Competition, the following prizes will be awarded:

• First Prize:
USD$50,000 and the right to negotiate a contract for the development of detailed schematic designs for the Central Plaza, Crescent Park, and Pedestrian Bridge for the Thu Thiem Investment and Construction Authority

• Second Prize:
USD$30,000

• Third Prize:
USD$15,000

Competitors will receive a Certificate for entering the Competition by the Competition Organizer. Winners will receive a Certificate of merit by the Organizer.

Stage 1 submissions are due at 5pm (Ho Chi Minh City time) on May 19, 2008, delivered in person or by mail to the following address:
