Estonian Academy of Arts

Design competition of the new building of the Estonian Academy of Arts.

Architects from all over the world are welcome to participate. Designing a new building for the Estonian Academy of Arts is an interesting challenge in functional as well as situational sense as the intended building will be located in the business centre of the city.
To counterbalance the surrounding material values, the board of the EAA decided to establish a new building on the present site, where the Academy had been located since 1917. This decision has a symbolic as well as a pragmatic aspect in the process of finding a new site, taking more than ten years, the present site was chosen for its historical integrity, existing detailed plan and finally, the results of mobile positioning project of the members of EAA carried on in 2006. The building of the Estonian Academy of Arts will become an active centre of Tallinn educational and art life and an attractive urban node. Architects are presented a complicated task with great expectations. The design projects, due to February 28th, 2008, will be judged by an international jury. The results will be disclosed on April 8th, 2008, and the best authors rewarded with prizes worth 2.4 million kroons in total.

Competition
The competition is public, anonymous, one-stage (a negotiated tendering procedure without prior publication of tender notice will follow), and international.

The competition is a competition of architectural design draft to find the best design solution for the new building of the Estonian Academy of Arts. The main objective of the competition is to find an outstanding architectural and urban solution to the new main building of the Estonian Academy of Arts and to find a person to commission further architectural and planning stages of the design, based on the winning entry.
