3rd International VELUX Award

The international VELUX Award 2008 for students of architecture wants to encourage and challenge students of architecture to explore the theme of sunlight and daylight in its widest sense to create a deeper understanding of this specific and ever-relevant source of light and energy.

“Light of Tomorrow” is the overall theme of the International VELUX Award. An open-minded dialogue on the “Light of Tomorrow” requires experimental approaches an free thinking. Therefore, the award seeks to explore the boundaries of daylight in architecture, including aesthetics functionality, sustainability, and interaction between buildings and environment. The Award is not restricted to the uses of VELUX products.

The award celebrates and promotes excellence in completed study works. These works can be made as study work complying with the prize scope on rethinking the values of conscious dalylighting design - including any building type or scale with focus on people’s living or working environments.

The award would like to encourage projects that go beyond the fact that light exists - projects that demonstrate experimentation and thinking about the unknown: Goi8ng to the edge – finding essence – working with perception and exploitation - as well as demonstrating the social, the sociological and the environmental dimension of light.

The award would like to acknowledge not only the students but their tutors as well. Therefore, the tutors of the projects are awarded parallel to the students. The award is given every second year, the fist time in 2004.

The International VELUX Award 2008 for Students of Architecture is organised in co-operation with UIA, International Union of Architects, and EAAE, European Association for Architectural Education.
