The National Centre of Physical and Technological Sciences, now headquartered in a 27 000 m², four-storey building in the Sunrise (Sauletekio) Valley, has become the largest and most advanced base for physical, chemical sciences and technology in Lithuania and the Baltic states. The concept behind the design of the National Centre of Physical and Technological Sciences is to represent state of the art of science, innovations and the harmony of the micro and macro world. The impressive square connecting the operating centres and the planned buildings is a highly significant urban focus. The square is used as a pedestrian walkway as well as a gathering place for the university and scientific community during various public events. The main entrance to the National Centre of Physical and Technological Sciences is placed at this square. The functional scheme and visual expression of the building are united by a common concept – the diversity of a crystalline structure. Therefore, the crystalline lattice of graphene, a carbon allotrope, one of the most modern materials of the XXI century, prompted the idea for the façade. In order to achieve the desired façade pattern, a special sub construction was created. The neutral white of the sparkling white silver ALUCOBOND® cladding not only reinforces the design concept but the surface also creates a sophisticated look thanks to its special sparkling effect.
About ALUCOBOND®
ALUCOBOND® is the world market leader for aluminium composite panels. Since their introduction on the market in 1969, these panels have been used above all in architecture and for corporate identity programmes, particularly for façades, wall and roof cladding. The panels are on the one hand outstanding due to their extreme evenness and rigidity, on the other hand they offer excellent formability with simple fabrication techniques. They are available in a large variety of colours, surfaces and formats as well as in various core variations such as a fire-retardant and a non-combustible version. With their comprehensive know-how, 3A Composites supports architects, designers and investors in designing and realizing building envelopes. The brand ALUCOBOND® is produced at the 3A Composites factories in Singen, Germany, Benton in USA, Shanghai in the People‘s Republic of China and in Pune, India.
