The hotel and conference centre Clarion Hotel Energy in Stavanger, Norway by Snøhetta architects is one of the first in its area to gain the Norwegian energy classification A. The building’s volume is divided into two main sections: two distinctively different volumes providing separate functions. First, there is a two-storey-high base volume of concrete with a roof cover of river stone containing the public areas such as foyer, restaurant, and a conference centre. Above the base, the hotel is facilitated for 410 hotel rooms. An elongated oblong volume with a roof sloping downwards from its highest point of 7 storeys in the north to only 5 storeys at the southerly end. ALUCOBOND® covers the surfaces of the lengthy volume combining both naturAL reflect and brushed as well as anodized look CO/EV1. The façade design takes its inspiration from Stavanger’s role as a former centre for the fishing and canning industries: the joint structure symbolizes the pattern of fishbones. The interplay between different gloss grades on the façade enhances the design in a subtle, sophisticated manner.
