9-1-2009 Every city is unique by its position, geography, spatial structure, culture characteristics and it’s architecture. Local understandings and developments traditionally play a large role in the history of the city. The city at the same time is no island on itself, but continuously stays in contact with the outside world. Flows of goods and persons pour in and out the city providing it not only with necessary fuelling, but also ensure that there is an exchange of ideas and information. As a result, cities show an overall, and sometimes generic variety of urban typologies, living areas, industrial parks and shopping centres. Standardisation is omnipresent. This undermines the ‘couleur locale’ and calls for a counter movement. For this reason many Dutch cities attempt to mix unique urban surroundings and environments that answer to local characteristics. This triumph of glocalism is also presented in the province capital `s Hertogenbosch, where during the previous decades some authoritative architecture and urban projects have been realised. From ten different perspectives the reader gets acquainted with the glocal development of this particular province city. In this way a rich picture of Den Bosch is presentedTen times Den Bosch has been set up as a window story in which the reader himself can discover the frame. In this way Den Bosch is pictured as a collage of colliding town fragments, a collage composed of a lot of cities, which are vehicles of their own tale.
